Membership Criteria
Members work with, but are independent of, their school systems. They have paid staffs and boards reflective of the community and work in school districts with a significant population of low-income children. PEN members are committed to the improvement of the public school system as a whole and support the values and mission of PEN as their national organization. Member dues represent LEF commitment to improving public education for all of our nation’s children.

Membership Dues
Membership dues represent an organization’s commitment to the PEN mission and values. Dues are paid on a calendar-year basis; dues for the first year will be prorated using the date of application approval.

Dues are calculated based on the organization’s expenses (as indicated on line 17 of IRS Form 990) for the previous fiscal year, including discretionary funds, designated funds for a specific purpose or program, and one-time grants. Pass-through funds for which the organization serves as fiscal agent are also included in calculating dues.
